The scale you completed was the "Domain Specific Maximizer Satisficer Scale," a scale created by Ravi Iyer at the University of Southern California.
The scale measures your tendency to "maximize" as defined in Barry Schwartz's book, the Paradox of Choice. Maximizing is the
tendency to try to make the best decision in a given situation. This has potential negative consequences as the complexity of
life may make it hard to make the absolute best decision and so one may be disappointed if making the best decision is
of extreme importance .
Recent research has broken up the tendency to maximize into 3 dimensions, Alternative Search (A), Decision Difficulty (D), and High Standards (S). It has been
theorized that it is the alternative search and decision difficulty dimensions of maximizing that lead to adverse psychological effects. Having high
standards may actually be related to optimism in some cases. As such, your scores have been broken down into these three dimensions
for each domain in the below graph.
The idea behind the scale is that maximizing may be domain specific. ie. Some people maximize in relationships, while others maximize in work.
Domains below are Shopping (Shop), Work, Relationships (Rela), Politics (Poli), Moral Decisions (Mora), and Place to Live (Home). Your score and the
average for all visitors are shown for your overall score and subscales for Alternative Search (A), Decision Difficulty (D), and High Standards (S).
